Current technologies to trace seafood are time consuming, prone to human error and require capacity and expertise in fish identification. Currently only 1-2% of seafood is screened.

Seafood Tracer is a platform that enables automation and accelerates species validation using new technologies such as eDNA barcoding, computer vision and spatial distribution models.

NETUNO is supporting the continual development of the project by providing raw material samples of octopus. Octopus do not have an internal skeleton, take multiple shapes and change color, so its a challenging organism to trace. Once Seafood Tracer can fully address tracing octopus using its technology, they can move onto tracking other type of seafood species.
