In the last few weeks, we’ve begun the pond construction of our new grouper farm pilot project in Brazil. Why a grouper farm? Well, it’s a fish that is facing overfishing and can be made more sustainable if farm-raised.

The farming method used will be a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS), which is a method that is growing worldwide because it requires less water than traditional aquaculture systems. Our first goal with this farm is to grow the grouper from fingerlings to plate size as fast and sustainably as possible, using by-products from our snapper processing facility as feed for the groupers.

A sustainable plus from this pilot project is that the energy is from company installed solar panels. If we succeed, we can spread this production and increase to other species of marine fish too.
